Description

Modeled in Sketchup and edited in Photoshop.
The is one of the sections that I did for a vertical farm concept in downtown Halifax for my first year of masters. It is of the south side of the building.
Some of the write up I did for it:
The Vertical Farm Project is a site specific program located on the property of the demolished Chronicle Herald building. This project was posed in a hypothetical near future in which smaller scale studies needed to be done in or to determine the feasibility of large scale projects. The building design is a direct response to the sun and the needs of plants with the floor plates rotating and reducing in area as the building height increases in order to maximize sun exposure. The southern corner of each growing area slopes down to become more perpendicular to the sun in order to reduce the angle of incidence. The building also takes advantage of wind/solar power and the collection of rainwater. The project would provide an opportunity for the public to buy produce grown on site, eat at restaurants serving food grown on site and have a hands on learning environment here they can learn about urban agriculture.

Hello Jon,

I wasn't able to find an email contact for you (tried LinkedIn, your blog, and architectural sites), and I would love to feature this project on a Scientific American blog that I co-author. Time is short though!  Please email me at theflyingtrilobite over on gmail dot com. Thanks!
